Elizabeth’s Story
Elizabeth is a science educator and illustrator from Buffalo, NY.
From a very young age, she was always the most at home exploring the woods with a field guide and plastic terrarium in tow. Her childhood hobbies mainly included identifying strange insects, meticulously sifting through pond scum in pursuit of interesting creatures, and enthusiastically providing salamander facts to anyone who would listen.
Her love of art developed alongside her love of science. Absorbing the phenomena of the world around her became fuel for her imagination full of whimsical creatures and fantastical worlds. It is the love of both science and storytelling through art that led her to education.
Elizabeth has worked in science communication as a National Park Ranger and Environmental Educator. Following a passion for sharing the marvels of our world with others, she went back to school and recently earned her M.S.Ed in Science Education. Elizabeth now enjoys having her own classroom where she teaches science to high school students. Something that she hopes to communicate through her work (both in the classroom and on the page) is a sense of wonder (for the real and the imaginary) and a devotion to the stewardship of our beautiful, magical world.
When she isn’t talking about plate tectonics or drawing plants Elizabeth can be found making jam, roaming bookstores, looking at birds, and taking time to give words of gentle encouragement to all toads that cross her path.
